How to Lower Cholesterol Level

Cholesterol is a waxy fat-like substance, made by the liver. We also get it from among the different types of food we eat, like meat, eggs and dairy product. If we just have the right amount in our body, it actually provides a good effect because it maintains healthy cell walls, creates hormones, makes vitamin D, and lastly, it creates bile acid, which is needed to help in our stomach's digestion.

It becomes bad if we have too much of it in our body, when we eat too much saturated fat, which usually happens when we eat too much meat and dairy products. The excess cholesterol clogs blood vessels, and it increases the risk of heart disease and stroke, because it does not allow blood to circulate freely to all parts of the body now, especially the heart.

This is actually a good thing for us, and we will share what these four factors are in lowering the production of cholesterol in our body. These are: exercise, healthy diet, losing weigh, and of course, intake of medicine.

You would ask, 'Why is exercise good for the body?' Is it enough to sweat a lot? Exercise is making yourself physically active. This can then help lower your cholesterol level, and when you exercise, you help improve the blood circulation to all parts of the body, especially to your heart.

Losing weight, on the other hand, is better compared to being overweight because excess weight increases blood cholesterol level, hence creating more cholesterol, more than what is needed by your body.

Healthy diet would not need any more explanation. If you eat healthy, then you produce good cholesterol and lower your cholesterol level. So what types of food can help you lower your cholesterol? Should you eat more of the foods that are rich in starch and dietary fiber, like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts, and seeds? Dietary fiber helps to lower cholesterol by cleaning up this excess cholesterol out of the body, before it gets to the blood, and circulate this bad cholesterol.

LDL, which means Low Density Lipoprotein, is the bad type of cholesterol. This cholesterol deposits itself in the artery wall, and it narrows or blocks the artery.

HDL, on the other hand, means High Density Lipoprotein, is the good type of cholesterol. This HDL helps in eliminating the LDL in your body.

So, love your body and take good care of it. Learn to eat the proper types of food, and learn to stay within your ideal weight, which depends on one's age and height. Do not eat too much because it will ultimately increase your cholesterol level, which is never good. Make an effort to really stay fit and healthy, after all, who else would benefit from keeping your body healthy but you!
